    Course Includes

    Learners will receive a level 3 award (Level 6 Scotland) in First Aid subject to passing the course assessment criteria.

    Where an organisation’s risk assessment of first aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for personnel trained in First aid at work, this national award in first aid satisfies the requirements of the Regulatory Body, the HSE.

    All learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe, effective manner.

    Objectives

    A range of subjects is covered, including:

    • Assessment of the situation
    • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
    • Fractures and spinal injuries
    • Control of bleeding
    • Poisoning
    • Burns
    • Epilepsy
    • Resuscitation and AED awareness
    • Bandaging
    • Heart attacks
    • Head injuries
    • Chest injuries
    • Asthma
    • Stroke
    • Burns
    • Choking
    • Eye injuries
    • Sprains and strains
    • Diabetes
    • Shock (including anaphylaxis)

    Duration

    This is usually delivered as a 3-day course in the classroom environment. There is the flexibility to deliver in shorter sessions across a longer timeframe.

    Exam format

    Practical assessment by the instructor, along with written test papers. A three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. Also, it is strongly recommended by the HSE that learners keep themselves up to date regularly. The annual 3-hour refresher course is the ideal way to demonstrate this.
